Tour through history
History of judo sport in Dubrovnik starts in the 60's last century. After successful presentation of judo and martial arts in January 1996 and because of great interest that was shown, judo section was founded, and then on 16th April of the same year judo club Nacui was founded.
During 40 years of existing club changed name few times. Nacui became Dubrovnik, after that it was called Bank of Dubrovnik, after the main donator, and for the last few years it act`s under the name Dubrovnik 1966. Club also started karate sport in Dubrovnik. Within club, karate section operated.
In the club organization in Dubrovnik seminar's, demonstration's and presentation's of judo and other martial arts, jiu-jitsu, aiki-do and wrestling were held. With quality organization and with expert help sections were founded all around Dubrovnik area and club is proud with the results in popularization of judo sport.
All this years judo players and trainers of the club made great results in all categories as single and in team competitions.
Success was not only prescribed for male judo players but also for female judo players. Numerous medals, diploma's, cups and other awards confirm that, but success is also dozen professional judo trainers, thousand judo belts, numerous judo judges and officials that derived from the club.
In all successes of the club definitely you have to count successful organization of tournaments, especially Mediterranean cup and International Cup Dubrovnik, big contribution in organization of European team championship, and World military championship, biggest judo competition that Dubrovnik hosted.
Andrija Habulin
As much as we tried not to point out any individuals during our 40th anniversary, we have to make one exception.
Andrija Habulin, name that is written with gold letters not only in history of the club but also in judo sport in Croatia, is the only starter and founder of the club that is involved in the work for the past 40 years. Habulin is all round athlete. He has a black belt in judo, karate and jiu-jitsu, judge, top trainer and sport pedagogue.
He is the reason why judo became famous in Dubrovnik. Today judo is one of the most famous and most successful sports in Dubrovnik.
Beside top and for most unreachable results with the club, Habulin as the trainer of different representational sections won medals on numerous international tournaments, world and European championships.
Today, Andrija Habulin is on tatami and active in work of the club. For his work and achievement he got lot of awards, amoung which is Award for lifetime achievement.
